Laguna del Diamante Full Day

Operable: From December to March, depending on the condition of the road.

Departure from Mendoza at 6:00 in the morning, from Valle de Uco at 8 o'clock. In 4x4 vehicles we go South, via the legendary Route 40, towards the Natural Reserve Laguna del Diamante, located in San Carlos. After one and a half hour we reach Refugio Alvarado, the Rangers' point of control. Then the mountain road climbs close to a stream, home to many guanacos and birds, until it reaches 3.500 meters in Pampa de los Avestruces. Once in Laguna del Diamante, we walk by this spectacular Andean lake at 3200 meters, with an amazing view of Maipo vulcano.

We visit the Rio Diamante source, an archeological site dating from 1200 BC, and the place where the famous French aviator Henri Guillaumet had to land his Potez-25 plane, during a storm in the winter of 1930, and then survive in the mountains for six days.

After a short trek, or maybe some fishing in the lake, we share a lunch of home-made local products, such as cheese, ham and salami sandwiches, with fine Valle de Uco wines.

In the afternoon we come back to Mendoza city, where we arrive at 20:00 in the evening.
